Come February I always start getting anxious for the thaw. Even though the water might not start to open for 6-9 weeks... I see February as the only month in my way. I usually find open water in Mid-to-late March. That doesn't sound so far away.
February is the season of love. In the South, the largemouth will start their spawn soon, moving onto the flats. The anglers of the Bassmaster will likely see a chance to target early spawners in Alabama, as well. From here, the tidal wave of love will sweep up the eastern coastline and eventually settle in New England by around the first week of April. It's just a matter of time. The days are getting longer, the average temperatures are beginning to rise, and every day brings us closer.
