Early Action

Postby Lucky Basstard on Sun Feb 07, 2010 10:14 pm

My parents are taking the first weekend in March to go to the Cape, and extended the invitation. I may have to put my waders to the test and search for any early migration for stripers.

International, when do you start the salt season? Do you get any stripers in March? I'd be fishing the bayside of Orleans during the first week.
- Twas on the Fifth day that the fish and fowl were created.
- On the Sixth day He made man in His image and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air.
- On the Seventh day the Lord rested, and I picked up my rod and gun.

Not sure that the sun will be strong enough just then to significantly warm the flats before the tide rolls in, but I'd imagine any early migration will sweep inland. First week of March too early you think? I'd imagine any early March bites would be on the ocean-side.

I dont hit the sound till late April/Early May. As the fish havent Migrated out of the River yet. One of the Dudes I go Ice fishing with hit a cove on the CT river and pulled a 28" Striper from the river. He said he could barely get it through the 8" hole :o

I think any luck that early in the year is going to come from the fresh/salt rivers where the holdover bass stay. Depending on the Water temp you may be able to target togs on pilings of a pier with a rocky bottom. If you wanted I'd be game for a Party aka "Refugee boat" trip if there were any available during that time. Im not sure what Salt Species can be caught up in that area at that time but I'd be willing just to wet a line even if we are out there for nothing..Im used to it

Awesome. Yeah I figured March is too early for much of anything. TO be honest, the only reason I'd tag along would be for the fishing, and if it's not going to be much more than a cold day on the beach I may stay in Western Mass and try somewhere else. :)

Man! They're starting the big move! I expect to be on the fish within 2 weeks time. I suspect that it will take 2-3 weeks for the migration patterns to be local. You'll get on them though.
