Save the Date: Sunday, June 27, 2010!
- Twas on the Fifth day that the fish and fowl were created.
- On the Sixth day He made man in His image and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air.
- On the Seventh day the Lord rested, and I picked up my rod and gun.

I can't make that....

NAWT!!!
Feel how easily the bait moves? That's a rock.
Feel it pull? You're taking it through vegetation.
Feel it grow light? Your on a brush pile.
Feel it explode and almost jerk the rod from your hand?
Thats a bass.

Yeah we gotta get the ball rolling on this one. We're open to any input on location suggestions, and we'll start looking into a spot. Keep in mind that we'll need the place to be just as good for the "evening festivities" as the fishing. ;)

I'm trying to open Frappr but don't know if it's a legit website any more for mapping users of forums. It would help to look at waters that are central to those who want to attend.

There are bars everywhere so I think it would be best to settle on a place that is known for catching lots of fish no matter the location, unless people are thinking about camping or staying at a hotel that night?

Also, are people going to be kayaking, in a boat, with electric or gas motor? This feels like Day Jah Voo so maybe we went over this in another thread or maybe I'm thinking of a last year or a different event? Will it be car top boats only or are real fishing boats allowed?

Here are my current picks:

Lake Wompanoag - Gardner, MA
Long Pond - Rutland, MA (Boat registration required here, fish cops live at this place)
Demond Pond - Rutland, MA
West Waushacum Pond - Sterling, MA

I'm game for Rohunta, some place near the Brookfields, any place in Western, MA. The picks above are just based on my experience of catching Large Mouth Bass at each. The middle two I've seen some nice size fish caught.

Also, since the event is in June boat traffic may be heavy on some lakes with homes. I'm talking water skiers and old people who have no shame and will cruise right up to you with their pleasure pontoons. Just something to think about.

Some of those issues are described in the .pdf for the event, found through the link in the beginning of the thread. The boats will be limited by the location of the event. If the water says no gas motors, then no gas motors. So, whatever the water permits.

As for the evening festivities, we were planning to call it an early afternoon for a few reasons. We wanted to allow for people to have the option to be home for dinner (not married but I know how wives can be) and also we figured people could bring some grills and cook some stuff up, have a few beverages, etc.

The boat traffic is a definite issue that has made me think that more "bassy" waters will be better for the event. If there's clear blue water, it'll bring out EVERYONE. But, if it's a swampy pond, only fishermen will be there, so it will at least limit the competition on the water.

Smaller water = less restrictions. Afterall, there's going to be a lot of Basstards there.

I'm going to look into each of those above suggestions.

The event is also scheduled for a Sunday. I'm not sure what people's work schedules are, but if people "call in sick" on Monday, we might be able to find a spot with a campground.
