Anyone can gloat about a good time but what about them bad times? Opening day of trout season and 7am buzzer goes off and you cast and your reel falls off the rod? You spend the next hour untangling that birdsnest you created in doing so while the whole stocked section of river you are fishing is being ripped in everywhere you look?

I have two.

First was a day when a friend had found a couple prospective waters to check out (I won't name any names :x ), we drove around for an hour looking for the first one, which was in the middle of a park, half surrounded by a public beach which was hosting a birthday party complete with a number of children running around screaming at the top of their lungs, we left without even casting a line. We asked if they knew where the second pond on our list was "Sportsmans Pond" to find out that it was a private pond... so after an hour of aimless driving (while I was rolling around in the back of Lucky's Jeep) half the day was gone and we hadn't even casted a line yet. I don't even remember what happened at the end of it, but it was a glorious waste of time.

The second was a day after camping Lucky, Regional, and myself headed down to lake Rohunta in 90 degree heat with the sun blaring with one of the worst hangovers of my life... and yes I had to roll around in the back of Lucky's jeep this time too struggling to keep my lunch down. When we got there I got skunked and ended up falling asleep on the bench in the boat.

Not gunna lie, Champlain pissed me off. Up at like 6:30am, day starts of beautiful, we round the bend and all hell breaks loose. 3 ft swells, wind and spray crashing over the bow, soaking us. Had to turn into shore to start a fire and dry (not so bad) 10:30am or so we head back to the protected cove. Fish for a bit and get a couple 6" smallies. Try to turn the motor over and she won't. I spent a solid hour working on the damn thing while Regional and Crazy watch me or continue fishing. Ended up tearing all the skin off my fingers pullin that damn chord, had to row ALL the way back, and really had nothin to show for it except a headache, sore back, and skinless hands.

Oh, and Crazy caught a Pike on the same lure I was using... but my lure was in the boat while I was working on the motor.

If the motor wasn't out-of-whack I'd have no problem with the above events. The carborator needs to be tuned. It's running to rich, pulling too much fuel and usually floods out. This means I try to lean it out with my trusty screwdriver after removing the housing, remove the sparkplug and dry it out, then try it again. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. Get Blisters. Repeat. Lose Skin. Repeat. Paddle back....
- Twas on the Fifth day that the fish and fowl were created.
- On the Sixth day He made man in His image and let him have dominion over the fish of the sea, and the fowl of the air.
- On the Seventh day the Lord rested, and I picked up my rod and gun.

Lies, you were fishing at exactly the same time, I remember because you casted again while I was pulling the thing in and Dez netted it. I remember smelling your anger from the other side of the boat... and I could also smell the blood dripping from your fingers.

Cat fight.. RAWRR
Feel how easily the bait moves? That's a rock.
Feel it pull? You're taking it through vegetation.
Feel it grow light? Your on a brush pile.
Feel it explode and almost jerk the rod from your hand?
Thats a bass.

My worst are really not that bad. I was just in pain. I hadn't fished in fresh water in probably 13 years before July 2008. I was in an ATV accident on April 2008 and went five weeks with no healing a broken left clavicle before going to surgery for an implant. KaptainKid took me fishing on the 4th of July, my day off to fish right up the street from my work at Stump Pond, and I was a sad looking gimp wearing a post surgery sling that left my left arm tight against my chest and under my shirt like a half a straight jacket. I was able to use my right arm and hand no problem but could only use my left hand by sticking it out from under my shirt at waist level and wiggle it at my wrist like a half straight jacket wearing, hand popping out of the stomach circus freak. The Quantum Cabo PT 40 or 50 series salt water spinning reel on fresh water rod setup I bought at Bass Pro, with one arm a few weeks before, was balanced but awkward to cast and reel in with the limited use of my left hand. Ever try casting a large spinning setup with 7'-6" rod and 20 lb test with one hand? Me neither. The butt of the rod had to be placed against my gut, left hand below the reel, right hand on the bail and line, twist back and to my right and rotate left and throw my right shoulder forward like we rolled to the pond on the short bus.

It was an awesome day like all days fishing, but it was the worst because I know I looked like a fool and was in some pain. But remember kids, there's no shame when you're high on percosets. Good times, good times.
Yeeeah Boy!
