Fishing The Rapala Husky Jerk.

Nearly a hundred years ago Rapala changed the face of sport fishing forever when it released the Rapala Original Floating Minnow. Since this day in 1936 Rapala has not simply sat back and enjoyed the initial success of the original minnow lure, it has spent the time innovating and developing new lure technologies. One such development is the Rapala Husky Jerk Jerkbait. The Husky Jerk is nearly identical to the Original Floater, however it is fine tuned to suspend in the water column at a given depth (written on the box). Furthermore this lure has a rattle chamber built into it. If you click on the image above to enlarge it you can see a few small ball bearings within the bait that rattle as the lure is retrieved, this is incredibly important when fishing stained water, as well as night fishing. The Husky Jerk is available in two different lip styles, the original and the deep down. The different lip shapes effect the depth that the bait runs at as well as the action when the lure is jigged.

The Rapala Husky Jerk allows an angler to capture the action of the Rapala wobble as well as slow their presentation down, which is important in cold water situations. This lure swims precisely like the Original Floating Rapala when swam subsurface, yet since it is a suspending bait it will not float up towards the surface if you pause your retrieve. Pausing your retrieval and twitching the bait in short bursts varying your timing will allow you to conquer a wide array of
fishing situations with just this one lure. Remember that different timing will create different results on different days on different fisheries... so experiment to find the rhythm that will produce the best on any given fishery on any given day. A good way to find this rhythm is to hum a song in your head and jerk your bait to the beat of the song, repeat this with a mix of your favorite songs until you find a productive timing. Also consider water tempertature when choosing a rhythm to fish the Husky Jerk to. A slow presentation with long pauses will produce water temperatures below 60 degrees fahrenheit as well as in water above 75-80 degrees.

The same approach applies to the Rapala Deep Down Husky Jerk Jerkbait, however this lure dives deeper when cranked due to its extended lip, and will take a sharper more downward path when twitched. Both of these lures are great go-to baits when approaching any new water due to their versatility and ability to entice fish into striking.
